Actually, he appears to be doing pretty well!
Who’s Norbert? He’s the Norfolk pine I’m trying to grow this year. He was one of those scraggly pathetic “Christmas trees” that they sell in the supermarket. He was in a sad state when I brought him home so I didn’t take a BEFORE picture, but this is his 4 months in DURING shot.

Norfolk pines aren’t actually pine trees, but tropical plants (more like orchids) so he requires a little more TLC than some of my other houseplants. Specifically he needs humidity, so he get a misting every couple of days.
I must admit that I was anxious about repotting him because I’ve read that Norfolk’s don’t like the process, but he had to be moved out of his tiny grocery store pot. It’s been a month since repotting, so he seems to have survived the trauma. Now he’s in a self-watering pot (again, being ever mindful that he stays hydrated).
I also check the moisture level of his soil often.

I’m so invested in him, that I give him a pep talk every time I care for him.
And you thought I was crazy for talking to animals……
Getting him to thrive is one of my goals for 2021. Tell me one of YOUR goals!
